The high-profile “World Laser Industry Conference 2022” was held in Shandong International Convention and Exhibition Center from June 23 to 25. Experts, scholars and industry leaders from home and abroad gathered in Jinan to celebrate the development of the world laser industry.

Zhang Shaogang, Vice president of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, said in his speech that the current round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial reform were deepening, bringing new development opportunities for industrial transformation and upgrading of countries. China was speeding up its capacity for industrial innovation, focusing on upgrading the modernization of its industrial chain and supply chain, and deepening cooperation with other countries in the field of innovation, including the laser industry. The holding of this World Laser Industry Conference would build an innovation resource platform for all countries, promote and accelerate the building of advanced laser manufacturing clusters with core competitiveness, and play an important role in strengthening the deep integration of the upstream and downstream laser industry chain and promoting the development of advanced laser technology and intelligent equipment.
At the site of the conference, Xiao Chengfeng, chairman of Shandong Huaguang Optoelectronics Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Huaguang Optoelectronics”) and Zhao Hong, director of the State Key Laboratory of Solid-State Laser, signed a contract on behalf of the two sides on the project of jointly building the State Key Laboratory of Solid-State Laser Technology.
According to the agreement, the “State Key Laboratory of Solid Laser Technology Jinan Research Center” (hereinafter referred to as the “Jinan Research Center”) will be located in the existing R & D and industrialization base of Huaguang Optoelectronics. Jinan Research Center will be based in Jinan, in view of the laser industry is eager to solve the core technical problems for research and exploration, in order to serve Jinan City and even the province’s laser industry for the purpose, facing but not limited to laser radar sensing, solid pump source and application direction and field. Give full play to the advantages of both sides, achieve the deep integration of “production, study and research”, explore new technologies and new industrial directions for industrialization research and related achievements incubation cooperation, and help Jinan laser industry become stronger and bigger.
Huaguang Optoelectronics will provide research and development sites and related equipment for Jinan Research Center, and ensure that the R&D team of Jinan Research Center is composed of not less than 20 high-end technical talents. All expenses required for the construction of Jinan Research Center will be borne by Huaguang Optoelectronics. Within three years, the R&D equipment and site will be invested in the construction according to the standard of no less than 20 million yuan per year and no less than 60 million yuan in total.
Xiao Chengfeng, chairman of Huaguang Optoelectronics, said that since more than 20 years ago, foreign countries have embargoed high-energy lasers on China. In recent years, China has made some breakthroughs in this regard. After the establishment of the Jinan Research Center, the two sides will focus on breakthroughs in high-energy laser chips as well as the entire basic technical system. After these technological breakthroughs, the industry and all aspects of human life will have revolutionary changes. For example, the cutting efficiency in industrial manufacturing will be faster, and the energy density of minimally invasive surgery using laser technology will be higher and more concentrated, and the minimally invasive speed will be faster and the effect will be better.
Zhou Shouhuan, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said that Jinan had a deep foundation in the field of laser industry. By participating in this event, he felf that Jinan has a leading position and potential for rapid development in the domestic laser industry. In the next step, we should be committed to breakthroughs in key technologies, go out and introduce them, and build a domestic first-class and world-renowned laser industry base.
Zhu Xiao, director of the National Engineering Research Center of Laser Processing, said in his speech that in the laser industry, two major development directions deserved our attention. First, the upstream development of the laser industry. We are now doing equipment and lasers, there are many devices in them. To the upstream development, is to guide our industry, enterprises, to conquer some key core devices, such as disc lasers and acousto-optic devices we have done now, all the devices in this, we must overcome themselves, this is a development direction. Second, is to tap the needs of our application industry, especially ultrafast lasers. Ultrafast lasers have come into the kilowatt era now, ultrafast surface micro-nano structure manufacturing will have a lot of application space later. Then we should be combined with the application industry, to develop new application equipment.
Jia Zhongqing, director of the Laser Institute, Shandong Academy of Sciences, said, “From the perspective of international and domestic competition to analyze Jinan laser industry’s development, foreign trade is a very important channel. Because some high-end industry users’ demand for equipment performance will stimulate the supply of new technologies, Jinan laser industry can communicate well with international laser technology developed areas in technology research and development and talent introduction. For example, Germany and other countries have very advanced laser technology, and some of our industrial chain can form a complementary, such as laser dust filter and other high-end, high power and other import-dependent core components. I think mutual communication and discussion can play a complementary role, may also bring new opportunities for cooperation.”
