On the morning of June 19, 2025, a delegation from Feicheng City, Tai’an, Shandong Province, China, held high-level talks with the German Association for Small and Medium-sized Businesses (BVMW) in Frankfurt. Authorized BVMW representative Friedemann Höfig, member company representative Zhao Yi, and Chief Representative of the Shandong Representative Office Liu Yin jointly received the Feicheng City delegation. The two sides engaged in in-depth discussions on industrial complementarity and cooperation pathways, laying a solid foundation for future collaboration.

During the talks, both sides focused on core competencies to explore synergies:

Feicheng boasts a long history and occupies a pivotal position on Shandong Province’s “Mount Tai-Yellow River-Confucius” golden tourism route. It enjoys a superior geographical location and highly convenient transportation links. In recent years, Feicheng has deeply implemented the strategy of building a strong city through new industrialization. It focuses on cultivating four dominant advantageous industries: new energy, new materials, high-end chemicals, and modern food. Notably, seizing the opportunities presented by the “dual carbon” goals (carbon peak and carbon neutrality), the city has fully leveraged its comparative advantages in areas such as lithium battery new materials, sodium-ion energy storage batteries, and salt cavern energy storage. It continues to broaden its presence in new energy sub-sectors like new battery electrode materials and salt cavern energy/gas storage, striving to build a modern industrial system. Significant results have been achieved in promoting green, low-carbon, and high-quality development.

The German Association for Small and Medium-sized Businesses (BVMW) has approximately 960,000 members, covering nearly one-third of Germany’s “hidden champion” enterprises, making it a crucial player in the German business ecosystem. Since its establishment, BVMW has consistently been committed to providing comprehensive support for German SMEs to expand into international markets and promote economic and trade cooperation. It has now established overseas offices in 55 countries and regions worldwide. Its vast and efficient business service network plays a significant role in promoting international economic and trade cooperation, facilitating collaboration between German and Chinese enterprises, and supporting investment and financing in industrial parks.

This meeting marks a deep handshake between China’s county-level economy and Germany’s SME system. Feicheng’s new energy industrial base will serve as a platform for German cutting-edge technology, while BVMW’s global network will open channels for China-Europe cooperation. Both sides agreed to deepen practical cooperation in areas such as enterprise management, technological innovation, and park enhancement, and draw a new blueprint for mutual benefit and win-win cooperation between Chinese and German SMEs.
